In 2022, Alabama’s total exports to Germany were $4.3 billion

Alabama exports reached $25.5 billion in 2022, and that’s nearly $3 billion higher than ever before.

The previous record was set in 2017, according to Made In Alabama. The 2022 total was 17.5% higher than the $21.7 billion seen that year, 22% higher than the $20.9 billion seen in 2021 and 47% higher than the $17.1 billion seen in 2020.

“Seeing a new annual export record demonstrates the success of operating and producing in Alabama. Growth in production from exports means job creation for our communities,” said Christina Stimpson, director of the Alabama Department of Commerce’s Office of International Trade.

In 2022, Alabama’s total exports to Germany were $4.3 billion, to China, $3.8 billion, to Canada, $3.2 billion, to Mexico, $2.8 billion and to Japan, $1 billion.

The state’s largest export category was transportation equipment. Exports in that sector totaled over $11.4 billion in 2022. Exports of Alabama-made motor vehicles approached $8.9 billion last year. And overseas shipments of aerospace products and parts exceeded $1.7 billion.

Of the state’s total, $2.7 billion were in chemicals, $2 billion in minerals and ores, $1.6 billion in primary metals and $1.6 billion in paper.
